Role Description:                               

The postholder will liaise with current collaborators and additionally be tasked to find appropriate new collaborators and partners for current, arising, and new ODx projects.

As part of his/her role the postholder will be required to identify potential sources of external R&D support (grants and other funding) for collaborative work, and coordinate/manage appropriate bids for these on behalf of ODx and appropriate collaborators.

The individual will work closely with the Discovery Executive to nurture new technology, corporate and academic partnerships, and support the company’s enhanced recruitment of technology, information, research and development partners and advisors to diversify, strengthen and grow ODx’s business base.

 

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership of, and be responsible and accountable for introducing new, innovative collaborators and partners to ODx (in point of care medicine and technology)
  • Evaluate research and other literature on potential partners and collaborators, write concise reports to bring them to the attention of the Collaborations team
  • Support teamwork in new partner and collaborator assessment; reductive selection of most appropriate/best fit/most needed for further assessment by ODx
  •  Working with ODx staff and contractors support growing links to selected collaborators and partners
  • Attend team meetings as dictated by functional lead
  • Ensure functional team is appraised of progress and actions
  • Contribute to the company’s intellectual property portfolio

  • Scientific skills: ability discover, identify and to evaluate potential research partners and collaborators in clinical innovation in the clinic, academia and industry; determine and review their potential value to ODx. Ability to exercise best knowledge and experience to choose appropriate options to progress ODx objectives.
  • Report writing: ability to interpret data and present the findings to colleagues in both formal and informal settings
  • Proposal development (for funded research), and a basic knowledge of research funders
  • Knowledge and experience of leading collaboration discussions leading to research contracting
  • Outward-fucussed, inquisitive, self-starting mind-set
  • Great written and oral communication; good listener
  • Business development/company & institution and personal liaison

Qualifications and Experience:

The individual should hold a science degree, preference being that they are qualified to PhD or hold an MBA or equivalent business degree. Previous work in science, technology and business discovery and analysis is required.

  • 2.1 degree in relevant science or business subject (microbiology, biochemistry, biomedical science, biotechnology etc.)
  • A PG qualification in an appropriate discipline (MSc, PhD, MBA or other) would be advantageous; research work, hospital lab and/or industry experience would be advantageous
  • Experience in forming, contracting and managing R&D partnership projects
