As a Laboratory Technician you will be an integral part of the Operations team and will be expected to produce reliable and accurate data from the urine samples obtained from our donors. You will follow company SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures) and help contribute to the production of new SOP’s when necessary.

Weekend Shift: - Saturday & Sunday - 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. with an additional 4 hours completed during the week

Job Type: Part-time, Permanent

Salary: £21,500.00 per year pro rata based on 19 hours per week

Required: 

  • Education & experience in Microbiology and/or Biomedical fields

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • To adhere to the quality systems set out in the laboratory SOPs
  • Focus on the generation of data using specific techniques and strict protocols to support scientific investigations.
  • Working in accordance with good laboratory practice (GLP)
  • Ensuring samples are accurately analysed and reported in the required timeframe
  • Performing scheduled regulatory checks and maintaining appropriate records
  • Set up and undertake controlled experiments
  • Collect and prepare biological samples for testing
  • Maintain laboratory equipment as required
  • Contribute towards keeping the laboratory well stocked with laboratory supplies and highlight to the Laboratory Team lead if shortages are noticed
  • Recording of results and maintenance of the record system
  • Participation in promotional and educational activities
  • Ensure all Health & Safety requirements are met within the Lab
  • Any other duties as required for the role.

Candidate Profile:

  • Experience of collecting and preparation of biological samples for testing as appropriate
  • Ability to assess whether samples meet laboratory standards and document any quality issues and ensure materials are properly disposed of.
  • Ability to review and report results in a timely manner including results that require further investigation.
  • Detail oriented: should be efficient, motivated and pay close attention to detail.
  • Experience of working within Biosafety Level II environment and able to follow strict safety guidelines.
  • Experience working within a microbiology laboratory
  • Computer Literacy and basic maths skills
  • Good communication skills and team member
  • Ability to work under pressure while keeping a positive attitude
  • The desire to learn new skills and adaptability in what can be a fast-paced environment
  • Good team player however Lone working may also be required
  • Degree in relevant scientific discipline
  • Knowledge of working to GLP/GCP guidelines
