As a Senior Laboratory Technician, you will be an integral part of the Operations team and will be expected to produce reliable and accurate data from the urine samples obtained from our donors. In addition, you will support the Laboratory Team Lead in the scheduling of laboratory testing and training of other laboratory technicians.

Shift: Monday-Friday, Evenings - 3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. (37.5 hours)

Required: 

  • Education & experience in Microbiology and/or Biomedical fields

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

· To adhere to the quality systems set out in the laboratory SOPs.

· Focus on the generation of data using specific techniques and strict protocols to support scientific investigations.

  • Working in accordance with good laboratory practice (GLP)
  • Ensuring samples are accurately analysed and reported in the required timeframe
  • Performing scheduled regulatory checks and maintaining appropriate records

· Help co-ordinate day to day activities within the laboratory with direction from the Laboratory Team Lead

· Assist in matters pertaining to the standardisation of laboratory procedures, audits, QA, calibrations, etc.

· Authoring and reviewing Quality documentation

· Ensure all Health & Safety requirements are met within the Lab

· Training and mentoring other Laboratory Technicians in laboratory SOP’s and other laboratory procedures

· Ensure all Laboratory supplies are adequately stocked and raising purchase requests to re-order.

· Contribute towards the scheduling of lab equipment maintenance and calibration

· Review and analyse laboratory data which will form the basis of laboratory reports

· Set up and undertake controlled experiments

· Collect and prepare biological samples for testing

· Maintain laboratory equipment as required

· Recording of results and maintenance of the record system

· Participation in promotional and educational activities

· Any other duties as required for the role.

Candidate Profile:

Essential

· Candidates should be educated to a degree level, or equivalent in microbiology or a related science subject or have 2-3 years’ experience within a microbiology laboratory.

· Theoretical and practical knowledge of microbiology analysis across a range of microbiological procedures is required together with a good understanding of quality systems.

· Knowledge and experience working within a multi-skilled laboratory.

· Experience of collecting and preparation of biological samples for testing as appropriate.

· Ability to assess whether samples meet laboratory standards and document any quality issues and ensure materials are properly disposed of.

· Ability to review and report results in a timely manner including results that require further investigation.

· Detail oriented: should be efficient, motivated and pay close attention to detail.

· Experience of working within Biosafety Level II environment and able to follow strict safety guidelines.

· Computer Literacy and basic maths skills.

· Working knowledge of training staff members in microbiological techniques and protocols.

· Good communication skills and team member.

· Ability to work under pressure while keeping a positive attitude.

· Ability to co-ordinate and when required deputise for Team Lead in a positive and respectful way consistent with the Company Values and Behaviours.

· The desire to learn new skills and adaptability in what can be a fast-paced environment.

· Good team player however lone working may also be required.

· Knowledge of working to GLP/GCP guidelines.

Salary: £23,000.00 per year
